It’s very true! Until I was at my late teens and had an experience that shaped my feelings and the way I think about romantic love, I was the biggest hopeless romantic. Now, I’m good on my own, but it occured to me that people base your worth around your love life and because I have none, I’m not enough for their expectations. (I’m mainly talking about my parents.) I think the obsession with love is very toxic and can be distracting and I also noticed how it is completely rooted in our society. When I started to write my current book my friend asked me that if I don’t want to write about romance, than what will it be about as if there would be no other topic or theme. Most of my friends are writers too, so… It was an interesting question😅

I spent most of my 20s obsessing over dating and relationships and was also a late bloomer. I was closed off to making any sort of connections unless it was romantic. Now at almost 30 and with more relationship experience, I’m open to just having pure human interactions with others regardless if it’s romantic or not. It’s led to me making new friends which is great! I feel more present and happier in life now.

Hi, Dustin! So I watched the Jubilee video when it first came out and it was extremely eyeopening and validating to me. I'm only now beginning to understand just how much of an identity crisis I've had to go through with having immigrant parents. I'm not at all Asian-American, but I do know what it's like to not be ethnically or culturally a part of the country you were raised in. What I loved (and what surprised me to be honest) is the fact that so many of you in the video weren't fluent in your parents' language - it was shocking to me because my whole life I've been called a "disappointment" for that very reason. I thought I was an oddball, or a "disgrace" (being called that hurt me so much damn), so it was pretty cool seeing people in the same shoes as me. And owning it too. I'm Zambian-South African by the way. Which is weird because I look like everyone else here in SA so they get so confused when I'm not 😭😭
